<p>KINGSTON &#8212; Officials say a landlord thawing pipes inadvertently sparked a blaze at a residence on Poplar Street on Sunday night.</p><p>Emergency responders <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/512706/young-kingston-couple-displaced-after-fire-erupts-at-poplar-street-home" target="_blank">were dispatched to 142 Poplar St.</a> at about 10:45 p.m. for a two-alarm fire. Kingston Fire Chief Frank Guido said crews arrived to find heavy fire at the rear of the residence.</p><p>Guido explained the landlord of the residence had been thawing the pipes, and left the residence at approximately 10 p.m. Guido added the fire was able to spread throughout the three floors of the residence and cause heavy damage.</p><p>&#8220;It has substantial damage, but it is salvageable,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Guido said the two residents of the building are currently out of state.</p><p>Guido said the fire has been ruled accidental, and reminded residents not to attempt to thaw pipes.</p><p>&#8220;Call a professional,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Don&#8217;t try it yourself for this very reason.&#8221;</p><p>The night&#8217;s frigid temperatures created slippery conditions for firefighters at the scene. Guido explained as crews began their initial attack on the blaze, the water froze on the ground. He had to call in the borough&#8217;s department of public works to salt the area, but commended firefighters&#8217; performance despite the conditions.</p><p>&#8220;They did a great job given the conditions they faced,&#8221; he said.</p><p>No injuries were reported.</p><style>
