NEW JERSEY-SPORTS BETTING PHILADELPHIA — New Jersey officials will resume their fight to legalize sports betting at casinos and racetracks when a federal appeals court in Philadelphia weighs the issue for the third time on Wednesday. Proponents hope New Jersey will be permitted to legalize sports betting to boost revenues for the state and its ailing casinos and racetracks. In the same room where he plotted Berwick's football success, the legendary football coach talked about the biggest battle of his life. "I thought I was in great shape," Curry said. "I lost 110 pounds. I was running four miles a day. I felt great, eating healthy, going to church every morning. I don't chew (tobacco). I don't smoke. I don't drink. And you know what, then all of a sudden. It got worst." It was ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Curry, 71, was diagnosed midway through this past football season with the progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. IN BRIEF: BODY FOUND-RECYCLING BIN — An eastern Pennsylvania detective investigating the death of a woman found in a recycling bin was injured in a shootout as he tried to serve a warrant in the case. Allentown Police Chief Keith Morris says officers were approaching an apartment's door Tuesday night when they were met with gunfire. He says officers returned fire. PENNSYLVANIA-CONGRESS-2nd DISTRICT — A longtime Philadelphia congressman who's facing criminal charges will have three opponents in the April 26 Democratic primary. GUARD SLASHED — State police say no charges will be filed against an inmate who slashed a corrections officer nearly a dozen times at a western Pennsylvania prison last fall. JEANS STOLEN — Police say thousands of dollars' worth of jeans have been stolen from a luxury department store chain in downtown Philadelphia. Philadelphia police say nine males donning ski masks stole 20 to 30 pairs of jeans from a Bloomingdale's store at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the jeans are worth about $2,000. STORM DAMAGE — Residents around eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey are cleaning up a day after heavy rain and strong winds damaged roofs and caused power outages. Tuesday's storm ripped off a roof of the Boys Club in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia and at a barn in Bucks County. MALICIOUS PROSECUTION SUIT — Several current and former constables are suing Allegheny County officials, accusing them of conspiring against them over fees. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that four current or former constables filed the lawsuit on Tuesday. PHA HEAD-HOME-SHOT — Police say shots were fired into the home of a Philadelphia public housing authority official. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Philadelphia police are looking for the gunman who they say fired into the home of Kelvin Jeremiah around 11:30 a.m. Monday. CHESAPEAKE BAY-RESTORATION — Fans of the Chesapeake Bay now have an online tool to track the progress of the estuary's restoration. ODD-LOVE ON THE MOVE — Philadelphia's Love Park has been vandalized with graffiti in the days before it closes for a yearlong, multimillion-dollar renovation.
