PITTSBURGH (AP) — Several current and former constables are suing Allegheny County officials, accusing them of conspiring against them over fees. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/249Jdvy ) that four current or former constables filed the lawsuit on Tuesday. The suit states the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office and the district attorney's office forced the constables to repay fees collected from people who turned themselves in. Those who didn't repay the fees were allegedly threatened with charges. The suit claims John Fitzgerald and Darrell Parker intimidated the constables and that the controller's office did nothing to prevent due-process violations. Sheriff William Mullen denied the accusations. A spokeswoman for County Executive Rich Fitzgerald had no comment. The district attorney's office declined to comment.
