WILKES-BARRE &#8212; An admitted killer is still putting up a fight.Nearly a decade since Ronald J. Lewis pleaded guilty to killing one man and injuring another in a 2005 shooting outside the Sherman Hills apartment complex, the 31-year-old New York man has again filed an appeal of his prison sentence under the state&#8217;s Post-Conviction Relief Act (PCRA).Police said Lewis, then 22, and Darryl Williams, 21, had fought each other a week before the shooting after a woman ended her relationship with Williams and began seeing Lewis. Williams was agitated over the outcome of the previous scuffle and wanted a rematch, police said.During the second conflict, Lewis fired two shots at Williams before shooting another man, Ronell Fuller. Williams was shot in the neck and died from the injuries. Fuller survived.Lewis in 2007 pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and attempted homicide charges and was sentenced to 17 to 34 years in state prison. He appealed the sentence in Superior Court and filed his first PCRA petition later that year. In the latter, Lewis claimed his counsel was ineffective. The PCRA appeal was denied in 2010.Lewis again filed a PCRA petition in May 2015.David V. Lampman, Lewis&#8217; court-appointed attorney, wrote Wednesday that Lewis&#8217; latest appeal raised &#8220;no issues of arguable merit.&#8221; Additionally, the petition was not filed within 60 days of decisions in which Lewis relies.Lampman asked a judge to dismiss the appeal without a hearing and to allow him to withdraw as Lewis&#8217; counsel.&#8220;Because this is defendant&#8217;s second PCRA petition, it contains arguments that have previously been litigated, and because it is without merit and clearly untimely, counsel believes it should be dismissed without hearing,&#8221; wrote Lampman, of Wilkes-Barre.Lampman added: &#8220;In short, no purpose would be served by other proceedings.&#8221;Lewis remains jailed at State Correctional Institution Somerset.<div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta>By Joe Dolinskyjdolinsky@www.timesleader.com</bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta>Reach Joe Dolinsky at 570-991-6110 or on Twitter @JoeDolinskyTL</shirttailMeta></div>
