Average gas prices hold steady overnight

PITTSTON &#8212; City council members approved a temporary experimental parking restriction on Fear Street at their monthly meeting.Pittston Administrator Joe Moskovitz said the idea for the restriction is due the narrow width of Fear Street, indicating cars parked along the sides of the road are blocking the views of other drivers attempting to exit their driveways.&#8220;It makes for a dangerous situation,&#8221; said Moskovitz. &#8220;The police monitored it for a few days, saw the situation that was created by new parking patterns and are following city code by doing a temporary restriction.&#8221;The Pittston City Code of 455-4 says signs will be erected along the selected street, in this case Fear Street, indicating days and hours which parking is acceptable.Moskovitz said the temporary restriction will be for 90 days and council will review the situation at the end of that time period to determine whether or not to make the restriction permanent.In other business, the city council members:&#8226; Approved the hanging of a St. Patrick&#8217;s parade banner on Main Street&#8226; Approved the closing of South Main Street and Kennedy Boulevard between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, for the Leprechaun Loop one-mile run and the St. Patrick&#8217;s Parade.&#8226; Appointed the following three people to the Pittston Zoning Hearing Board: James Serino to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2016; Michael Augello to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2017; and Vernon Jones to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018.&#8226; Appointed Michael Augello to the Pittston City Parking Authority to continue the five-year term, left vacant due to the passing of Jim Norris in July 2015, to expire Sept, 15, 2017.&#8226; Appointed Joseph Chernouskas to the Pittston City Housing Authority to continue the five-year term, left vacant by the resignation of Michael Augello, to expire October 2018.The next city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 at city hall, 35 Broad St.<div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta>By Jimmy Fisherjfisher@www.timesleader.com</bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta>Reach Jimmy Fisher at 570-704-3972 or on Twitter @SD_JimmyFisher</shirttailMeta></div>
