Yatesville woman sentenced for role in bath salts conspiracy

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Last year about this time, Louise Brant of Ashley settled into a chair at St. Leo&#8217;s/Holy Rosary Church and watched her great-granddaughter, Brennia, who was almost 2 years old, dig into a serving of macaroni-and-cheese.</p><p>&#8220;We lived in New Jersey for years, and we never found church dinners like this there,&#8221; Brant said, expressing her delight that she could find reasonably priced, home-style food at the parish&#8217;s weekly Lenten dinner and know at the same time she was supporting a good cause.</p><p>Whether they&#8217;re unique to the region or not, fund-raiser dinners at churches and hose companies seem extra plentiful as winter turns to spring, partly because many organizations prepare meat-free meals for Lent.</p><p>You&#8217;re in luck if you&#8217;re pining for pizza, searching for a savory soup or maybe feeling a frenzy for fish.</p><p>But, if you crave meatier fare, don&#8217;t worry. You can find a roast beef dinner at the Northmoreland Township Volunteer Fire Co. in Dallas on Wednesday, soon to be followed &#8212; all on March 5 &#8212; by pork and sauerkraut at the Forty Fort United Methodist Church, a turkey supper at Trucksville United Methodist Church and chicken and biscuits at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Dallas.</p><p>If you want to sample some of these meals for yourself, here are the details:</p><p><strong>Spaghetti Dinner,</strong> noon-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, St. Aloysius cafeteria, Barney Street, Wilkes-Barre. Adults, $9; children 6-12, $4; under 6, free. 570-823-3791, ext. 2.</p><p><strong>Roast Beef Dinner,</strong> 4:30-7 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 24, Northmoreland Twp. Halusky, pieroghy, Manhattan clam chowder, cream of mushroom soup, tuna salad hoagie or roll, weekly specials. Eat-in/take out. Main St., Plymouth. Fried haddock or fried shrimp dinners, $9.50. Haluski, pierogi, red clam chowder and potato pancakes can be purchased.
