VETERAN-FATAL CRASH HOLLIDAYSBURG — A central Pennsylvania judge is refusing to modify the sentence he imposed in a fatal 2013 crash, including provisions that the defendant carry the victim's picture and place flowers on her grave each year. EXCHANGE: EXCHANGE-EXONERATED PRISONERS PITTSBURGH — Lewis Jim Fogle was twice cursed. Had he been exonerated in Texas, he would stand to receive wrongful conviction compensation of $2.72 million and an annuity of equal value. Had he been exonerated in Alabama, his compensation would be at least $1.7 million. But he was exonerated in Pennsylvania. His compensation here: Zero. So, Jim, as he is known, not only had the nightmarish misfortune of being wrongfully convicted in Indiana County in 1982 in the murder of a 15-year-old girl, but he also was exonerated in one of 20 states that provide no compensation for those wrongfully convicted. Never mind that the 34 years of imprisonment the Indiana, Pa., man wrongfully served— more than half his 64 years — is the longest among the 54 people who have been exonerated in Pennsylvania. EXCHANGE-CHRISTINA'S BRAIN BRISTOL — Twenty years ago, 8-year-old Christina Santhouse woke up in a Maryland hospital and faced her first day with only half a brain. No one knew what the future would hold for the little girl -- only that she would now get the chance to have a future. Milestones like going to college, having a career and marrying and becoming a mother were low on the family's wish list because the possibilities seemed so remote.Two decades later, she holds bachelor's and master's degrees, is a speech and language pathologist, and has added another milestone to her list -- one that came with a new last name. EXCHANGE-HALL OF FAME PLAQUES PITTSBURGH — In early March, Tom Tsuchiya will point his orange 2011 Honda Element east and drive about five hours from Cincinnati bearing precious cargo. Once he arrives at the sprawling Brookline facility on West Liberty Avenue that houses the Matthews International Bronze Division, the 43-year-old sculptor will hand over a pair of clay images he designed and created in about six weeks. This will set in motion a process, the results of which are images cast in bronze and plaques unveiled on the grounds of Clark Athletic Center in Cooperstown, N.Y., on July 25 when Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza become the newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. In their speeches they will laugh, maybe cry, reminisce and thank loved ones and other appropriate people. They also will lay their eyes, for the first time, on the work of Tsuchiya and the Matthews team, which produced the lasting likenesses and, in a sense, immortality. Bob Cohn, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. EXCHANGE-GENETIC TESTING YORK — Connie Radziewicz received a heart-breaking diagnosis in 2013: stage four ovarian cancer. Her family had an ugly history with cancer. Her mother died of ovarian cancer when she was 75. Her brother lost his battle at age 56 with what was believed to be prostate cancer that had ravaged his body. Many other relatives succumbed to cancer. So Radziewicz had her DNA tested for the BRCA gene, a mutation that puts a woman at much greater risk for breast and ovarian cancers. She wasn't sure if she should be tested. She had heard that actress Angelina Jolie chose to have her ovaries and breasts removed because she had been found to have the BRCA gene mutation. Her doctor told her that the tests weren't for her; they were for her children. "That's when we decided to go through with it," she said. Caitlin Kerfin, York Daily Record. EXCHANGE-BLACK ACTORS HARRISBURG — As Viola Davis said in her Emmy Award acceptance speech last year, "You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there." Acclaim, then, is directly tied to opportunity. And for the cast of Open Stage of Harrisburg's "Two Trains Running," the opportunity to tell the story of a black neighborhood, as written by a Pulitzer Prize-winning Pennsylvanian playwright, is not being squandered. For a long time, I didn't feel like there was much opportunity, particularly as a black woman," said Jennette Harrison, who plays Risa in "Two Trains Running." ''And I think that's an issue in the industry as a whole." ''Apparently what forces drive the Oscars are out of touch with what's really out there." Neither Harrison nor Aaron Bomar, her cast mate who plays Memphis in "Two Trains Running," were surprised at the Academy Award nominations this year. "I saw 'Creed,'" Harrison said. "Michael B. UNIVERSITY STUDENT-STABBED — Authorities are seeking two men seen fleeing a location where an eastern Pennsylvania university student was stabbed. DEAD DOG IN SUITCASE — Authorities in southeastern Pennsylvania are searching for the person who put a dog in a canvas suitcase while it was apparently alive and let it die there, struggling to escape. SPORTS: HKN--LIGHTNING-PENGUINS PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday in a matchup of two teams fighting for playoff position in the crowded Eastern Conference.
