Our Opinion: Many reasons to be bullish on Wilkes-Barre’s future

Luzerne County recreational grant award process criticized

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; On Feb. 26, a group of Wilkes University nursing students will be visiting the Boscov&#8217;s Department Store to host a flash mob and information panel in honor of Heart Health Month. Baltimore Life Insurance and the American Red Cross will also be in attendance.</p><p>Heart disease is a leading cause of death for both men and women, but more than 80 percent of heart disease and stroke can be prevented with proper care and knowledge.</p><p>The future nurses will be at the store from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. teaching those in the store all about heart health and safety procedures. They will host an interactive demonstration on performing hands-only CPR, in which those in attendance are invited to practice what they&#8217;ve learned on a mannequin. They will also be providing information in both English and Spanish regarding heart safety.</p><p>At 11:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the nursing students will be performing a flash mob to the hit song, &#8220;Stayin&#8217; Alive.&#8221;</p><p>The American Red Cross will additionally be part of the event. They will provide information about blood donations, emergency preparedness, first aid and CPR training and volunteer opportunities. Baltimore Life will also be in attendance to &#8220;Toss the Junk.&#8221;</p><p>There will be a number of other aspects sure to capture the attention of those in attendance, including games and soup tasting.</p><style>
