Our Opinion: Many reasons to be bullish on Wilkes-Barre’s future

<p>As the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins enter the final stretch of the regular season, an old rival will become quite the familiar face.</p><p>With 24 games left in the season, the Penguins will face the Hershey Bears eight times, beginning with a home matchup at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday. There&#8217;s a lot on the line as the second-place Bears have closed to within one point of the Penguins and are just a handful of percentage points behind for the Atlantic Division lead.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s going to be a good test. Hershey has a good squad and they&#8217;re running on all cylinders right now,&#8221; Penguins head coach Clark Donatelli said. &#8220;The rivalry is always there, and this brings out the best in both teams.&#8221;</p><p>In four prior meetings this year, the Penguins and Bears have split. The last time they faced each other was in Hershey on Dec. 26 when the Bears beat the Penguins 5-0 in Donatelli&#8217;s debut as head coach.</p><p>Donatelli will look for a different result this time, and he&#8217;ll have a little help as Pittsburgh reassigned goaltender Matt Murray on Monday - one day after he was called up. Pittsburgh also reassigned defenseman David Warsofsky to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a long-term conditioning assignment. Warsofsky last played on Jan. 17 and has been sidelined with a concussion. He began the season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and posted two goals and six points in 14 games.</p><p>Of the four meetings this season, both of the Penguins&#8217; wins came at home and they outscored the Bears 10-2 in those games.</p><p>NOTES</p><p>- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton recalled forward Ty Loney, defenseman Clark Seymour and goaltender Brian Foster from Wheeling on Sunday.</p><p>Loney, in his rookie season of pro hockey, has earned five assists and registered 28 shots on goal in 23 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.</p><p>Seymour has set AHL career highs in goals (3), assists (2), and points (5) in 15 games with the Penguins this season. The second-year pro scored his first AHL goal on Dec. 16, 2015 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.</p><p>Foster, 28, has appeared in five games this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 2.97 goals against average and .879 save percentage. The sixth-year pro recorded his first career AHL shutout with 30 saves in a 3-0 Penguins win at Syracuse on Dec. 19, 2015.</p><style>
