Woman who stabbed neighbor's dog amid burglary gets prison

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman is heading to prison after pleading guilty to charges she broke into a neighbor's apartment and stabbed the woman's dog. The (Somerset) Daily American reports (http://bit.ly/1T4lpWu ) 24-year-old Virginia Campbell was sentenced Monday to two to five years behind bars. Authorities say Campbell called police in May and reported a break-in at her apartment. Witnesses told police that Campbell complained about the attention the dog received before acknowledging she stabbed the animal and made up the story about her unit being burglarized. The 15-year-old Pomeranian was euthanized because of a severe knife injury to its head. Campbell pleaded guilty to criminal trespass, theft and cruelty to animals.
