PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia is cracking down on unsightly, unlawful clothing donation bins around the city. Licenses and Inspection Commissioner David Perri says the poorly maintained bins attract graffiti, drug activity and dumping. He says "communities all over in the city are working to beautify and improve residents' quality of life and these bins undermine their good work." On Tuesday, Perri will be joined by Mayor Jim Kenney in the city's Nicetown section announce a crackdown on 70 illegal bins. He tells The Philadelphia Inquirer they'll be collected, broken down and the metal will be recycled An ordinance introduced last year requires bins to be maintained and bans them from private commercial property. Councilwoman Cindy Bass, who introduced the legislation, says the overflowing bins "have been an eyesore in our communities for too long."
