Court summons justice to hearing in bawdy email ethics case

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice is due in a Pittsburgh courtroom for a hearing that could help resolve the ethics charges he faces over his email practices.The Court of Judicial Discipline has ordered Justice Michael Eakin to appear at the hearing on Thursday so it can consider a motion filed jointly by his attorneys and lawyers for the Judicial Conduct Board.The motion says they want the court to consider some "additional proposed stipulations," or facts that everyone can agree on.Both sides say that may lead to a resolution of the ethics charges that, if convicted, could result in Eakin's removal from the bench.The 67-year-old Republican is accused of exchanging emails with salacious images and content demeaning toward women, Muslims, immigrants and others.
