Cops: Pennsylvania honors student was 23-year-old Ukrainian

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A former school board member and another resident are suing claiming the Allentown teacher's union president is still being paid to teach even though she's not taught in a classroom since 2009. That woman, Allentown Education Association president Debra Tretter, has declined comment. Wednesday's lawsuit contends Tretter makes nearly $82,000 in salary and nearly $127,000 counting her benefits even though she works full-time on union issues and doesn't teach. David Broderic, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Education Association, which is also being sued, says Tretter "works with the school district every day to fight for programs that help kids learn." But the plaintiffs say the district, the third-largest in the state, has laid off 272 teachers since 2011 and can't afford to pay one who doesn't teach.
