VFW Post 6325 hosting Easter party

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; At ease leading youth groups, the Rev. Wayne Morgan Jr. looked just as comfortable running a floor buffer.</p><p>He put his job experience with ServiceMaster to work Saturday morning and joined volunteers cleaning up the Community Room of the Keystone Rescue Alliance Mission, the new home for the <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/516137/lighthouse-afterschool-program-finds-new-home-still-close-to-sherman-hills" target="_blank">Lighthouse Resource Center&#8217;s after-school youth program</a>.</p><p>Morgan guided the buffer over the floor tiles left wet from Molli Campbell&#8217;s mop to scrub away dirt and grime as other teenage girls from Parker Hill Community Church carried in plastic storage bins and boxes loaded with books, games, crayons and toys into the basement space.</p><p>&#8220;I think it is a godsend,&#8221; Morgan said.</p><p>He and Carrie Haverlock, coordinator of the Lighthouse, got word Monday it could no longer use the backroom donated by store owner Fabian Sanchez due to his closing March 1. The Mission offered to house the program serving children mainly from the Sherman Hills apartments.</p><p>&#8220;We will definitely miss Fabian&#8217;s constant presence,&#8221; said Morgan, Northeast regional coordinator for the National Network of Youth Ministries.</p><p>The Community Room is twice as big as the cramped quarters the Lighthouse occupied since October 2014 and a short distance to Parkview Circle from the store on North Empire Court at the entrance to the low-income housing complex. The children will still meet three times a week to participate in the 90-minute program that combines play, learning and Bible lessons.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m kind of amazed at the support,&#8221; Morgan said. The community rallied around the program to keep it going, he said.</p><p>The group from Parker Hill arrived to help as part of their community service and also were participating in a 30-hour fast to raise funds for the &#8220;She is Safe&#8221; campaign to prevent the exploitation of girls and women in high-risk places worldwide, said Kelly Kongvold of East Benton, a small group leader with the church. Approximately 200 kids from the church&#8217;s three locations in Clarks Summit, Dickson City and Wilkes-Barre were out on different projects, she said.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re all over the place,&#8221; said Kongvold.</p><p>Campbell, 17, of Mayfield, added she&#8217;s helped out at a variety of projects.</p><p>Lauryn Beermann, 15, of Clarks Summit, pushed a broom across the floor so Campbell could mop.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re just happy to help,&#8221; Beermann said.</p><p>Haverlock welcomed the turnout. The girls&#8217; were scheduled to clean and it coincided with the unscheduled move, she said.</p><p>&#8220;I feel like God knew,&#8221; Haverlock said. &#8220;He sent us an army of little angels.&#8221;</p><p>The assistance will ensure the program aided by volunteers and donations will be ready to resume on Tuesday, Haverlock said.</p><p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t run this program without my volunteers,&#8221; she said, estimating there are 20 who regularly help.</p><style>
