Our Opinion: Birdwatchers might realize NEPA fits the bill for pursuing outdoor hobby

Our country and our government are in a tangled mess. Election candidates are at each other&#8217;s throats, budgets are far over the deadline, we are borrowing and spending money by the billions, and no one is coming up with the solutions.We are avoiding the simple answer.An elderly couple sat in their living room wearing sweaters and jackets. They were cold, as was the room. They had turned up the thermostat several times to no avail. A neighbor came daily to check on them. He saw their situation and said: &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you shut the window?&#8221;And there is the simple answer: It&#8217;s not the thermostat or the furnace. It&#8217;s not the government or the economy. We have to shut the window.What is the window? We are the window: you and I. God gave us 10 rules to live by. They are called the Ten Commandments.We break several, if not all, of these commandments daily, hourly. Sex: It has become the national pastime with everybody and anybody. Drugs: Heroin has become a national epidemic. We will steal to get so high that we can&#8217;t come down. Pornography: It&#8217;s apparent in print, on the screen and in what we wear. It has infiltrated into the lives of government officials and has even taken in young children as actors. Murders: We open our local daily newspaper to see how many of us have been shot or killed yesterday. Robberies: We are stealing from our neighbor, our employer or the organization that has entrusted us with its funds. Marriage: The institution has been desecrated. Marriage is a sacrament instituted by God between one man and one woman. It is not this: &#8220;We&#8217;re just living together.&#8221;And the killing goes on. Since Roe v. Wade we have aborted, no, killed, 55 million tiny human beings who are God&#8217;s children. Life begins at conception. Fifth Commandment: &#8220;Thou shalt not kill.&#8221;We must stop offending God if we want to solve our problems.Jesus, who actually walked on this earth, gave us the answer: &#8220;Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all else will be given to you.&#8221; We need God&#8217;s help. We have two choices: either close the window or we will continue to freeze to death.John J. RygielWyoming
