UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United States has asked the U.N. Security Council to schedule a vote Tuesday afternoon on a resolution that would impose tough new sanctions on North Korea in response to Pyongyang's latest nuclear test and rocket launch. The U.S. Mission to the United Nations requested the vote late Monday. A vote on the resolution, drafted by the U.S. and China, has been held up for several days by Russia which asked for more time to study the lengthy text and reportedly suggested some changes. The draft resolution would require every U.N. member to inspect all cargo heading to and from North Korea for illicit goods. Angola takes over the rotating Security Council presidency on Tuesday. The U.S. asked that the vote be held after the council meets to discuss its program for March starting at 3 p.m. EST (2000 GMT).
