PITTSBURGH (AP) — A detention hearing in Pittsburgh has been delayed for an Eastern European man charged with running an international email phishing scheme that enabled him and others to steal banking information $25 million from banks and companies worldwide. Thirty-year-old Andrey Ghinkul didn't have an attorney Wednesday morning and requested one. That prompted a federal magistrate to postpone the hearing until the afternoon. The hearing will determine whether Ghinkul remains jailed until trial. Prosecutors say Ghinkul is a threat to flee prosecution. The FBI says U.S. victims of the Bugat malware that infected computers of those who opened the phishing emails lost about $10 million. But worldwide, businesses and others lost at least $25 million. The case is in Pittsburgh because a western Pennsylvania school district and bank were among the biggest victims.
