West Pittston Borough applying for DCNR grant to construct senior playground

<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; A Pittsburgh man accused of robbing the Fine Wine &amp; Good Spirits store in April 2015 was sentenced to state prison Wednesday.</p><p>Pedro Ewing, 43, of Presque Isle Drive, was sentenced to 81 to 168 months in state prison by Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas. Lupas also ordered Ewing to pay $178 restitution to Walmart and $153 to the spirits store.</p><p>Township police allege Ewing entered the Fine Wine &amp; Good Spirits store in Wilkes-Barre Township Marketplace just after the store opened April 3.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint, Ewing allegedly took a bottle of Gentleman Jack whiskey off the shelf, inspected it, put it back on the shelf, picked up another bottle of Gentleman Jack and took it to the cash register.</p><p>Ewing then went back to the aisle, selected a bottle of Evan Williams bourbon and took it to the register.</p><p>As the cashier totaled and bagged the items, Ewing brandished a handgun and said, &#8220;Gimme all your money&#8221; and &#8220;Open the drawer.&#8221;</p><p>Ewing continued to say, &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry &#8230; I&#8217;m doing this for my kids,&#8221; before taking $82 in cash from the clerk and the two bagged bottles of liquor and fleeing the store.</p><p>Police said in the complaint fingerprints recovered from inside the store matched those on record for Ewing.</p><p>In September, Ewing was arrested on <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/381823/wilkes-barre-man-charged-with-sexually-assaulting-autistic-child" target="_blank">allegations he sexually assaulted an autistic girl</a> lost in South Wilkes-Barre in September. He is being held on $150,000 bail. The court status of the case was not immediately known.</p><style>
