Letter to the Editor: Tune out media when weighing presidential options

A disgusting display of inhumanity was published on Feb. 1 in the Times Leader. The dead coyotes &#8211; animals greatly revered by the Navajo herders who called them &#8220;God&#8217;s dog&#8221; &#8211; look the same as our beloved dogs. One would go to jail if they killed a dog, yet this was a glorified lust for killing. And, encouraging children to kill animals is totally wrong.Coyotes, the most persecuted predator in Pennsylvania, are killed because wildlife agencies such as the state Game Commission want more deer available for hunters to kill, and coyotes are deer predators. The Game Commission increases the deer herd through breeding, targeting bucks instead of does, manipulating the habitat by increasing deer food supply and killing the deer&#8217;s natural predators, such as coyotes. The more deer available for hunters to kill will increase the commission&#8217;s coffers.The Pennsylvania constitution states &#8220;Wildlife is held in trust for all citizens,&#8221; not only hunters. As long as the Game Commission consists of all pro-hunting members, this slaughter of wildlife will continue.Please beg your state and federal officials to stop the slaughter of our beautiful wildlife!There is no reason to kill coyotes. They are a self-regulating species and a vital part of the ecosystem, and without them the ecosystem is disrupted.
