Rallies for, against Confederate flag duel at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Supporters and opponents of use of the Confederate flag traded insults and expletives at opposing demonstrations at Gettysburg National Military Park. The (Hanover) Evening Sun (http://bit.ly/1QBExoS ) reports that Cumberland Township police and park officers had to separate a few people Saturday afternoon before disagreements became physical. The Sons of Confederate Veterans Gettysburg said the Confederate Flag Day gathering sat the park's Eternal Peace Light Monument was intended to honor Southern ancestors. A few hundred feet away was an event organized by Scott Hancock, associate professor of history and Africana studies at Gettysburg College, who said he hoped to provide a different perspective on the meaning of the flag.
