Why is it that when anyone goes against what President Barack Obama wants, it&#8217;s considered racism.The headline of a Feb. 29 article in the Times Leader read, &#8220;Black voters see court fight as affront to Obama.&#8221; This article is about who should choose the next Supreme Court justice. The Democrats, of course, want Obama to nominate someone, and they want the Republican-led Senate to consider/approve whomever is nominated. Sources in the article go on to berate U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey for being part of the Republican Senate group that would like to wait for the next president to nominate a replacement.How about a little history lesson, shall we?June 1992:&#8220;As a senator more than two decades ago,&#8221; the New York Times recently reported, &#8220;Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. argued that President George Bush should delay filling a Supreme Court vacancy, should one arise, until the presidential election was over, and that it was &#8216;essential&#8217; that the Senate refuse to confirm a nominee to the court until then.&#8220;Biden&#8217;s words, though uttered long ago, are a direct contradiction to President Obama&#8217;s position in the battle over naming a successor to Justice Antonin Scalia.&#8221;George H.W. Bush was in his last months as president.July 2007:&#8220;New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a powerful member of the Democratic leadership, said Friday the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush,&#8221; it was reported at the time.George W. Bush was in his last months as president.Before people start throwing the term &#8220;racist&#8221; around for not agreeing with Obama, do a little research. Find out why decisions are made.It seems that most folks forget that Obama&#8217;s mother was white. Racism? Hardly.
