From Facebook to storefront: New Nanticoke business opens

<p>LARKSVILLE &#8212; A fire displaced nine people and claimed the lives of several pets on Tuesday.</p><p>The fire did extensive damage to the back of a multiple unit home at 89 West Broadway.</p><p>Fire and emergency personnel from Larksville, Edwardsville, Courtdale and Plymouth responded to the blaze, which was first reported at 4 p.m. </p><p>Deputy fire Chief Mike Petriga said four cats had perished in the fire and several other animals were on their way to a veterinary hospital.</p><p>He said the fire was related to a propane gas grill on the side porch, but said the exact cause would be determined by a state police fire marshal.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve heard several stories about what could have happened and are going to fully investigate,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Diane Moorhead, a resident of the multiple unit structure, sat on a porch across the street, and was being provided with oxygen.</p><p>&#8220;I really don&#8217;t feel well,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I have pneumonia.&#8221;</p><p>When one of her dogs was successfully retrieved from the home and brought to her by firefighters, she was visibly relieved.</p><p>Neighbors surrounded Moorhead, offering her everything from a place to stay to personal supplies to a meal.</p><p>The American Red Cross said it had responded to the fire and were &#8220;providing four families, nine people total, with emergency assistance for lodging, food and clothing.&#8221;</p><style>
