West Hazleton council honors two heroes who saved the lives of an elderly woman and her dog, Mozart

<p>DALLAS &#8212; The Misericordia University American Medical Student Association Club will present its 3rd annual Pre-Medical Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 19 in Huntzinger and Alden Trust Rooms of Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall.</p><p>The theme will be &#8220;Global Service through Medicine&#8221; with keynote speaker Francis J. Collini, M.D.,</p><p>The event is free and open to high school and college students and their parents who are interested in pre-medicine or medical careers.</p><p>Collini, the medical director of The Renaissance Center for Plastic Surgery in Dallas and co-founder of Community Cares for Kids, will present, &#8220;Volunteerism in Plastic Surgery.&#8221;</p><p>Since 1996, Community Cares for Kids has helped needy children in the poorest regions of third world countries, particularly those born with birth defects or suffering from post-traumatic deformities. With Collini, a medical team has been traveling to Ecuador annually to operate on children in need of reconstructive surgery. For one week, a dedicated group of doctors and nurses provide around the clock surgery, surgical care and necessary supplies. The volunteers expanded their humanitarian mission in 2006 to children in similar need from other parts of the world.</p><p>Pre-registration and reservations are requested by March 15, as seating is limited for this conference and more than 100 students participated in last year&#8217;s event. A light continental breakfast and lunch will be served to guests.</p><style>
