<p>KINGSTON &#8212; While her friends giggled and twirled around her in a rainbow of full, puffy skirts, 13-year-old Destiny Taylor stepped onto a platform at The Dress Lounge and stole the show &#8212; thanks to her white socks emblazoned with green leprechaun hats that clashed a bit with her high heels and semi-formal pink dress.</p><p>&#8220;I love those socks,&#8221; Debra Kester teased. &#8220;It&#8217;s the style of tomorrow.&#8221;</p><p>Seriously, when Destiny and close to two dozen other models take part in a March 10 fashion show sponsored by the honor society at Wyoming Valley West Middle School and organized by Kester, their advisor, the socks won&#8217;t be part of her ensemble.</p><p>But they were good for a laugh as several of the models, all eighth-grade students, had a fitting at The Dress Lounge on Northampton Street, which is loaning eight dresses for the occasion.</p><p>&#8220;I think the girls look like flowers or cupcakes,&#8221; boutique owner Natalie Bush said. &#8220;They look adorable.&#8221;</p><p>Flirty, full-skirted, above-the-knee dresses are in vogue for Sweet 16 parties, eighth-grade dances and semi-formal affairs, Bush said, while prom dresses tend to be floor-length and more form-fitting.</p><p>Proceeds from the fashion show will benefit the Deutsch Institute&#8217;s Verve Vertu art program for special-needs adults, and Bush said she was glad for a chance to help a good cause.</p><p>For the honor society students, Kester said, people with special needs are not distant individuals to whom they might send a check. They&#8217;re friends with whom they spend time, inside and outside school.</p><p>Mentioning a young man from a life-skills class, 13-year-old Jessica Fellerman said, &#8220;He&#8217;ll come over to our table at lunch and say, &#8216;I just came to say Hi&#8217; and I&#8217;ll say, &#8216;You can eat with us.&#8217;&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;They&#8217;re our friends,&#8221; Destiny said, explaining she agreed to go to the eighth-grade dinner dance with one of three special-needs boys who will be part of the fashion show.</p><p>So, does everyone know what to do at a fashion show?</p><p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t go too fast,&#8221; several girls answered. &#8220;We have to walk slowly.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;And we have to be a little sassy,&#8221; 14-year-old Hannah Maxwell said. When pressed, she demonstrated. &#8220;You can put your hand on your hip like this.&#8221;</p><p>The fashion show begins at 7 p.m. March 10, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and an orchestra set to start a prelude at 6:45 p.m. Before and after the show, Kester said, visitors can see and perhaps purchase artwork created by the Verve Vertu artists. They will also be able to admire art, home economic and technology displays done by Wyoming Valley West students.</p><style>
