<p>BETHLEHEM &#8212; Colin Pasone couldn&#8217;t help not thinking about last year&#8217;s PIAA Class 2A Championships when he lost his only two bouts.</p><p>On Thursday at Giant Center, the Meyers junior started the event wrestling on the same mat in his first match as a year ago and wore the same green ankle bands as his first appearance in the state tournament.</p><p>&#8220;I had a couple thoughts like &#8216;Oh this is just like last year. I&#8217;m in a tough match and then I get stuck and pinned,&#8217;&#8221; Pasone said. &#8220;But it just made me want to go out there and win this one. It&#8217;s hard to tune that out. I just focused on the match and just needed to know what&#8217;s going on in front of me.&#8221;</p><p>He did just that.</p><p>Pasone blocked out the memories from last season and defeated Harborcreek&#8217;s Nick Oosterkamp 6-0 to advance to Friday&#8217;s quarterfinals. Pasone, who improved his record this season to 39-3, will face Upper Dauphin freshman Bronson Garber (36-4) in Friday&#8217;s quarterfinal round, which will begin at 9 a.m.</p><p>The Mohawks junior got the first takedown of his bout then got a reversal in the second period to go up 4-0 and then managed a takedown in the third period to account for all his points in Thursday&#8217;s win.</p><p>&#8220;Hopefully it leads to my confidence being high and hopefully (Friday) I can win and move onto semis,&#8221; Pasone said. &#8220;Relax, sleep, eat a little bit then hopefully come out win and do the same thing (Friday) to get to (Friday) night&#8217;s semis. That&#8217;s the plan.&#8221;</p><p>Pasone and Scranton Prep&#8217;s Thor Balavage, an Avoca resident, were the only two of five District 2 wrestlers to reach the Class 2A quarters. Balavage, the Northeast Regional champ at 220 pounds, beat Lehighton&#8217;s Wyatt Clements 2-1 to advance. Balavage will wrestle Port Allegheny&#8217;s Ethan Budd in the quarters.</p><p>Hanover Area&#8217;s John Sheridan (285 pounds) lost a close 1-0 match in his opening-round match to Robert Dunbar from Wyomissing to fall into the 285-pound consolation bracket. The only point Sheridan allowed was when he let Dunbar up in the third period. Even though Sheridan got a grip on Dunbar&#8217;s leg when they were in neutral, he couldn&#8217;t finish the takedown. He wrestled later in the afternoon on Thursday afternoon and dropped another close bout, falling 9-6 to Evan Sweesy from Freedom.</p><p>A career that appeared to have a limitless ceiling after he defeated returning state qualifier in GAR&#8217;s Saul Wilkins in December of 2014 ended for Sheridan by a total of three points.</p><p>In his consolation match, Sheridan led 2-1 after the first period and was tied at 5-5 in the third period, but a pair of takedowns sealed the win for Sweesy, including the last one that came with about 20 seconds remaining.</p><p>Valley View&#8217;s Brett Uhrin (132) and Lackawanna Trail&#8217;s Trent Phillips (195) each won their preliminary round matches on Thursday, but then lost to tough opponents in the first round to drop into the consolation brackets. They both wrestle in Friday&#8217;s second round of consolations.</p><p>Benton, which is in a co-op with Northwest, advanced five wrestlers to the state tournament after claiming the team title at last weekend&#8217;s Northeast Regional. Three of them reached Friday&#8217;s quarterfinals. Joe Klock won by technical fall at 106, while Alan Diltz picked up a pin at 113 and Jeremy Walsh won by decision in his 170-pound bout.</p><p>Cole Rhone (120) and Mike Stuart (132) each lost their first-round matches to fall into the consolations. Both rebounded from those losses to win their bouts in the losers bracket and remain in contention for a medal.</p><style>
