It was a pleasant surprise to see the Times Leader&#8217;s Feb. 29 <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/opinion/editorials/516935/our-opinion-birdwatchers-might-realize-nepa-fits-the-bill-for-pursuing-outdoor-hobby" target="_blank">editorial</a> about birders in Northeastern Pennsylvania.I joined the Audubon group on its walk through Wilkes-Barre&#8217;s Kirby Park on a recent Sunday. Many people in our area have bird feeders in their yards. Very few are likely to go on walks looking for birds.But I agree the area can capitalize on this interesting and beautiful resource. It should be part of the tourism strategy for Luzerne and the surrounding counties.The rise of eagle sightings and other types of birds is stirring up a lot of excitement among people here. It wasn&#8217;t happening years ago. Now it is and it&#8217;s great to see these wonders of nature firsthand.John WitkoskyWest Wyoming
