Coyne, a lifelong city resident and former police chief, has travelled South Main Street a time or two, but never quite like this &#8211; chauffeured and the center of attention. The procession is scheduled to step off at 2 p.m. Sunday from South Street, then flow to the review stand on Public Square. Coyne served as chief from the mid-1980s to 1997, overseeing the implementation of the force&#8217;s emergency response unit and its bicycle and horse patrols. Separately, he was active in civic affairs as a volunteer board member for groups such as the Victims Resource Center and Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA. A tip o&#8217; the cap to you, chief.</p><p><strong>Coal</strong> to revelers whose supposed &#8220;celebration&#8221; of Irish heritage involves getting drunk and causing trouble along Northeastern Pennsylvania parade routes. What&#8217;s wrong with you? Your behavior is both illegal and potentially dangerous. Don&#8217;t spoil the day &#8211; for yourself, your family, the police and other parade attendees. The Good Shepherd Academy student, 12, outlasted 21 other stellar spellers to win Sunday&#8217;s Times Leader/Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, giving him a shot at the national title later this year in the Washington, D.C., area. He correctly cruised through words such as &#8220;alkali,&#8221; &#8220;runic&#8221; and &#8220;valet.&#8221; But beyond putting the proper letters in correct order, he thoroughly impressed with his demeanor: poised behind the mic, enthusiastic in victory, appreciative of the first-place prizes (including a dictionary) and, most important, thoughtful toward his fellow contestants. Good luck at the national bee, Peter, and enjoy your stay in the nation&#8217;s capitol. Oops, we mean &#8220;capital.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Coal</strong> to disgraced cop Kenneth Shotwell. The former Dupont police officer was found guilty this week of obstructing justice and other charges related to a 2013 traffic stop in which he turned his back on his law enforcement duties in exchange for a fistful of pain pills. As a result, a reputed drug dealer supposedly got off the hook and Shotwell ultimately got a date with a sentencing judge. Let&#8217;s hope Shotwell, 46, gets help to regain control of his life.</p><p><strong>Diamonds</strong> to actor Jack Black. The &#8220;School of Rock&#8221; star reportedly will continue his on-screen musical odyssey by portraying Hazleton singer turned scoundrel Jan Lewandowski. Known to fans as Jan Lewan, or the &#8220;polka king,&#8221; Lewandowski parlayed his popularity first into a business enterprise &#8211; opening a gift shop and serving as a tour group operator &#8211; then a criminal one &#8211; bilking hundreds of investors out of millions. Kudos to Black for daring to portray an infamous local figure and daring to woo movie goers with accordion music.</p><style>
