Beyond the Byline: This picture is worth a million memories

<p>WYOMING &#8212; A great television show can inspire a lot of discussion among its fans.</p><p>&#8220;Downton Abbey&#8221; is one of those shows, spawning a group of &#8220;Downtonites&#8221; who met at the Wyoming Free Library in Wyoming on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the show&#8217;s finale.</p><p>John Roberts, the library&#8217;s director and &#8220;Downton Abbey&#8221; curator, organized the &#8220;Wyoming Free Library Downton Abbey Season Six Tea Party and Discussion&#8221; where 25 fans from all over Luzerne County gathered.</p><p>&#8220;Over the past six years, &#8220;Downton Abbey&#8221; has covered many events in history. The events of the sinking of the Titanic were covered in season one. The show had something for everyone &#8211; fashion, the characters, the architecture and building locations just to name a few,&#8221; Roberts said.</p><p>The library decided to sponsor the event a few years ago because it was a show &#8220;that everyone was watching and talking about the next day,&#8221; he said.</p><p>It has been an extremely successful discussion group and tea party for the past three years, he said. The attendance has increased each year, he added.</p><p>The Downtonites met to enjoy the tea party. Some were donning fashionable show-related gowns and hats as they discussed their favorite characters and episodes of the television series that ran locally on WVIA. They were able to taste various teas, scones, cookies and finger foods. All of the food, decorations and tea sets were provided by the participants.</p><p>JoAnne Olejnick, who attended the event, said she enjoyed the show from &#8220;day one.&#8221; But the best part after watching it on Sunday nights was discussing it with the other fans on Monday.</p><p>&#8220;We developed a real camaraderie,&#8221; she said.</p><p>JoAnne Raynis, who also attended wearing a period outfit, added the show provided a &#8220;history lesson.&#8221; And even though the history was well known, there were still some surprises and comical insights, she said.</p><p>&#8220;The library has seen an increase in participation at our programs over the past three years, and for that we are delighted&#8221; he said.</p><p>The library currently seeks sponsors for our upcoming 2016 community events.
