Toomey: 'Wise' to let next president fill high court vacancy

YORK, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania prosecutor says police officers were justified in shooting to death a man armed with a knife last fall. York County district attorney Tom Kearney announced Wednesday that the officers will not be charged in the Oct. 17 death of 28-year-old De'quan Lynn Williams. Officers responded to a call that a man was off his schizophrenia medication and violent. They found Williams outside a York home and ordered him to drop the knife, but he refused and moved toward them and back several times. The report says one officer used a stun gun but it was ineffective, and Williams then threw the knife at one officer and charged the second. Kearney said the officers weren't in a position to retreat safely and were justified in using deadly force.
