NAZARETH, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania borough's school district says a planned strike Friday by teachers may be illegal. The Nazareth Area Education Association announced plans for the walkout after the district rejected its latest offer. The 341 teachers have been working without a contract since the end of August. But the school district said the walkout "may be an illegal strike" and it is considering legal options. Superintendent Dennis Riker said he is still hoping a walkout can be averted. He also said most child care providers for the district will provide all-day care in the event of a strike, and sports and other extracurricular activities would go on as usual. A walkout planned in October was averted after an agreement in principle was reached, but the deal fell apart in December.
