PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Zoo welcomed a new tiger to its big cat exhibit. The zoo introduced the 7-year-old male Amur tiger named Grom on Friday. He comes to Philadelphia from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the zoo's fifth Amur, or Siberian, tiger. The 300-pound male will be in the zoo's First Niagara Big Cat Falls exhibit only in the mornings as he adjusts to his new home. For now, the public can see him before noon each day. Grom will turn 8 on May 11. He joins Changbai and Koosaka, sisters who were born at the zoo in May 2007, and brothers Dimitri and Wiz, who were born at the Columbus Zoo in June 2012 and came to Philadelphia in January 2014. The zoo hopes he'll eventually breed with Changbai or Koosaka.
