PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Officials say a Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice was treated at a hospital after an assault by a panhandler in downtown Philadelphia. Police said Kevin Dougherty reported being attacked Friday evening in the subway by a man who appeared to be talking to himself. An hour later, a man blocked the path of Dougherty and two companions, asked for money, and then hit the justice in the face. Police said Dougherty was taken to a hospital for treatment of a possible concussion. Dougherty's brother, Philadelphia labor leader John Dougherty, said the justice was OK and the attack appeared random. Twenty-six-year-old James Paulk faces simple assault and reckless endangering charges. His mother, Delores Paulk, said her son has been treated for years for schizophrenia but was "not a bad person."
