<p>Elena Lagoski and her Michigan State women&#8217;s gymnastics teammates are headed to Athens, Georgia on April 2 to compete in the NCAA Division I Regionals. The Spartans are one of 36 teams at six regional sites vying to move on to the NCAA Championships April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas.</p><p>Lagoski, a Wyoming Valley West grad, is a standout in floor exercise. She is tied for 24th nationally and finished second at the Big Ten Championships last Sunday with a career-best 9.95. She was named to the Big Ten All-Championship team and was a second team All-Big Ten pick.</p><p>&#8220;Elena has really stepped up on bars and has been a major contributor in that event,&#8221; coach Kathie Klages said. &#8220;She has always been an exquisite floor performer.&#8221;</p><p>Lagoski, who competed locally with Northeast Gymnastics, had seven first-place finishes on floor this season, giving her 17 victories in that event in her career. She owns the four of the top 14 floor scores in the Spartan record book.</p><p><strong>KOSHINSKI GOING, TOO:</strong> Freshman Kirah Koshinski will be joining her teammates at West Virginia at the NCAA Regionals, as the Mountaineers head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 2.</p><p>Koshinski, a Berwick grad, takes some lofty scores into the meet. Her best in the vault is 9.925 and her best on floor is 9.95. And, she&#8217;s 9.8 on bars and 9.75 on beam.</p><p>Koshinski was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned Big 12 first-team honors in the vault. She tied for third on vault (9.9) and seventh on floor (9.85) and added a 9.75 on beam at the league championship last Saturday. She helped West Virginia finish third with a 195.925 score.</p><p><strong>BIASI A STARTER:</strong> Sophomore Sal Biasi has pitched in five games and started four for the 7-10 Penn State baseball team. The 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander, a Hazleton Area grad, is 2-2 with a 4.86 ERA. In 16.2 innings, he&#8217;s given up 19 hits and 15 runs, nine earned, with 13 walks and 20 strikeouts.</p><p>Biasi&#8217;s two victories were solid efforts. He pitched 6.1 innings and gave up four hits and one run with one walk and eight strikeouts in a 5-4 victory over Army. He was ahead 3-1 when he left the game. Last Saturday, Biasi came out of the bullpen to work five innings and give up three hits and no runs with three walks and five strikeouts and got credit for the victory in a 4-1 triumph over Niagara.</p><p><strong>KOZLOSKI HONORED:</strong> Franklin &amp; Marshall junior Ryan Kozloski was named Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week after he finished second in the javelin throw (50.61 meters) and was runner-up in the triple jump (12.09 meters) at last weekend&#8217;s Dr. Jack M. Toms Open in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was the opening outdoor meet for the Diplomats.</p><p>The Dallas grad is working to improve his showing in last year&#8217;s CC Outdoor Championships (May 6-8 at Dickinson). He was fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the javelin.</p><p><strong>ALEXANDER DOING THE JOB:</strong> Junior Tommy Alexander is the ace of the Mansfield baseball team. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-hander, a Wyoming Valley West grad, is 2-1 with a 1.41 ERA in five starts for the 8-10 Mountaineers.</p><p>Alexander has two complete games &#8212; a 5-1 victory over Assumption where he gave up four hits, a run, walked two and struck out four in seven innings. Last Friday, he gave up seven hits and three runs, just one earned, with two walks and two strikeouts in a 3-1 loss to Millersville.</p><p>His other victory came in a 5-3 triumph over Upper Iowa when he gave up four hits and two runs, one earned, with two walks in six strikeouts in seven innings of the nine inning game.</p><p>Mansfield also uses three area athletes in the bullpen. Freshman right-hander Billy Gregory, another Wyoming Valley West grad, has pitched in five games and has a 1.08 ERA. Senior left-hander Matt Zielen, still another WVW grad, has worked in five games and sophomore right-hander Jeremy Worlinsky, a Holy Redeemer grad, has worked in four games.</p><p><strong>McCRUM SEEING ACTION:</strong> Freshman Jordan McCrum is seeing playing time as a pitcher and at shortstop for the Monmouth baseball team. The Dallas grad started at shortstop in a 14-5 loss to George Washington and hit a three-run home run, drove in a run on a ground out and had a single.</p><p>The 5-foot-10, 155-pounder has pitched in five games in relief for the 7-11 Hawks and has had two solid games. He worked 2.1 innings and gave up two hits in a 7-5 loss to George Washington and worked 3.1 innings and gave up five hits and one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts in a 12-4 victory over VCU.</p><p><strong>BORUM PITCHING IN:</strong> Freshman Colleen Borum has pitched in five games and started three for the 5-8 St. Thomas Aquinas softball team. The Crestwood grad is 1-1 with a 2.21 ERA.</p><p>In her first start, she pitched a seven-inning complete game but came up on the short end of a 3-1 decision to Southern New Hampshire. She gave up 12 hits, just two earned runs and struck out five. She picked up her victory with a complete game 5-1 triumph over Dominican (N.Y.) last Friday. She gave up four hits, a walk and an earned run.</p><p><strong>GOOD START FOR O&#8217;DONOHUE:</strong> Freshman Maddy O&#8217;Donohue is hitting .313 for the 5-6 Delaware Valley softball team. The Nanticoke grad has 10 hits in 33 at-bats with four doubles, two home runs, seven runs scored and 10 RBI batting third and playing right field.</p><p>She was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and six RBI in a 24-0 triumph over Fisher. She hit her second home run last Saturday in an 8-7 loss to FDU-Florham as DelVal dropped two games to open the Freedom Conference season. In the field, O&#8217;Donohue has handled 24 chances without an error.</p><p><strong>HONOR FOR POPPLE:</strong> Harvard senior Josh Popple was named to the All-Ivy League second team in wrestling.</p><p>The Coughlin grad posted a 9-10 record with a 6-6 mark in dual meets at 184 pounds. He had two falls. Popple wrapped up his career with a 43-47 record with 13 pins.</p><p><strong>BARAN CHIPPING IN:</strong> Freshman Joe Baran is hitting .308 in the early going for the Stony Brook baseball team. The Hazleton Area grad has eight hits in 26 at-bats with five RBI and eight runs scored.</p><p>The 6-foot, 160-pound left-hander has also pitched in three games in relief for the Seawolves who are 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the America East.</p><style>
