NEWPORT TOWNSHIP - The Newport Township Board of Commissioners are imposing a burn ban in the township from April 1 to May 31, 2016 at the request of the Newport Township Fire Companies and DCNR.The purpose is to reduce grass and forest fires during this period of time. Violators will be cited in accordance with our burn ordinance and be subject up to $300 per day for each violation.Be like Smokey the Bear and help prevent forest fires.The final day to pay the 2016 Refuse and Recycling Fee is Thursday, March 31, 2016. Any unpaid bills at the time will be turned over collection.Residents with stickers are reminded they must be displayed. Failure to display them could result in a fine of up to $600 per day.Any questions concerning refuse and recycling fee can be directed to the municipal office at 570-735-4735.
