SPCA enforcement officer Wayne Harvey is relieved an incident in Hanover Township over the weekend, although tragic, did not reflect any wrongdoing on the part of area residents.&#8220;Cheyenne, a nine-year-old Siberian husky, had escaped from the residence of her owners nearby and ended up on Hanover Street near Nanticoke,&#8221; said Harvey. &#8220;Passing motorists attempted to help her and she fled.&#8221;About 45 minutes later the dog was found dead on the side of the road by Nanticoke resident Linda Kotch, having been hit by a car.&#8220;The gentleman that hit the dog did report it,&#8221; said Harvey. &#8220;What started out as a seemingly horrible incident, actually reflected responsible behavior on the part of a lot of people.&#8221;Harvey also credited Cheyenne&#8217;s owners with microchipping her.&#8220;She originally did have an identifying collar, but she didn&#8217;t have it when she was found,&#8221; said Harvey. &#8220;The fact that she had a microchip allowed us to locate her owners.&#8221;Although the incident was tragic, Harvey said there are lessons to be learned from the event.&#8220;Its important to microchip your animals,&#8221; said Harvey, &#8220;and if you do hit an animal, immediately report it to the police, call 911.&#8221;
