ATLANTA (AP) — Donald Trump promises to "Make America Great Again." George Wallace said he would "Stand up for America." The 2016 Republican presidential front-runner doesn't say he's following the 1960s playbook of the Alabama segregationist, a four-time presidential hopeful. But Trump's detractors and some political observers argue the bombastic billionaire is making the same play to many working-class white voters by telling them that their version of the United States is under threat from immigrants and Muslims. In his presidential campaigns, Wallace complained of a society in decline, often without mentioning race. Trump's supporters are offended by the comparison. Tea party leader Debbie Dooley says Trump is simply "standing up for the American workers and the American people." Trump argues that all his supporters want is "security" and "safety."
