Federal officials, advocates push pill-tracking databases

Relations between Cuba and the United States saw a momentous advance this past week when U.S. President Barack Obama visited the island and met with Cuban President Raul Castro in a scene unimaginable just a few years ago. The first American president to visit the island nation in almost 90 years, Obama spoke directly to the Cuban people in a televised address and attended an exhibition baseball game between the Cuban national team and the Tampa Bay Rays.  Obama continued on to Argentina, where he met with President Mauricio Macri, danced the tango and visited the memorial for victims of the 1976-1983 military dictatorship.  Back in Cuba, another unprecedented event took place later last week when the Rolling Stones performed before an ecstatic crowd in Havana. Cubans and foreigners danced the night away to the most famous act to play Cuba since its 1959 revolution. In Brazil, a spreading political corruption scandal continued to rock the government of President Dilma Rousseff, with protesters calling for her impeachment and judges blocking her former mentor and predecessor, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, from becoming her chief of staff.  World Cup soccer qualifying matches were played throughout the region, with powerhouses Brazil and Argentina either squeaking by or ending in a tie.  ___ This gallery was curated by photo editor Tomas Stargardter in Mexico City. ___ Associated Press photographers and photo editors on Twitter: http://apne.ws/150o6jo
