<p>LUZERNE &#8212; A fire that broke out on Hughes Street Tuesday morning displaced six people, four adults and two children.</p><p>Borough Deputy Fire Chief Frank Barber identified the owner as Mark Iorio.</p><p>He said the fire had been attributed to a space heater on the first floor. Crews could be seen on the roof of the residence tearing away roofing material and breaking windows, with smoke billowing from inside.</p><p>Barber said the first floor suffered significant damage, with the second floor of the large single-family residence having considerable smoke and water damage.</p><p>Barber said two dogs were safely removed from the residence, but a cat perished.</p><p>There were no injuries to the human residents of the home.</p><p>In addition to the Luzerne Borough Fire Department, Barber said the two-alarm blaze brought fire departments from Swoyersville, Kingston, Larksville, Courtdale, Pringle, Plymouth and Edwardsville.</p><p>He lauded the quick work of the departments in putting out the blaze, which was called in at about 8 a.m. and, according to Barber, was under control by about 9 a.m.</p><p>Barber said the Red Cross responded to the tragedy and would be providing housing and other assistance to the family.</p><style>
