PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Latest on a spring storm hitting parts of the East Coast (all times local): 11 p.m. Winds exceeding 50 mph left more than 80,000 electricity customers without power across the Northeast, with more than 29,000 still in the dark into the night. More than half of those still without power late Sunday were in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Utilities reported 46,000 outages in New Jersey and 18,000 in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon. By late Sunday, there were 8,000 in New Jersey and 10,000 in Pennsylvania. Meteorologist Faye Barthold with the National Weather Service says Manhattan's Central Park had wind gusts up to 45 mph. Sustained gusts of 64 mph hit Kennedy Airport. The heavy winds also swept across New England. Maine utility crews were still restoring power to more than 3,100 customers who lost power mainly due to winds knocking tree limbs onto power lines. 3:30 p.m. Officials say downed electrical wires caused power outages to more than 700 homes in Staten Island as damaging high winds continued across the East Coast. Power was restored to all but 40 customers by 2 p.m. Sunday. Electricity companies reported more than 9,000 outages in Massachusetts, over 5,000 in Connecticut and nearly 600 in Rhode Island. Maine utility crews are working to restore power to more than 1,100 customers who lost power mainly due to high winds bringing tree limbs down on power lines. New Jersey has about 46,000 outages, while Pennsylvania has more than 18,000. High winds also caused a 17-year-old kayaker to capsize on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. She was rescued and taken to the hospital for possible hypothermia. ___ 12:25 p.m. The snow and rain may be gone, but high winds continue to whip across parts of the East Coast, causing major power outages. Parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island saw up to 6 inches of snow Sunday morning. The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory through noon for most of the region. But high winds continued even as the snowfall dissipated, causing thousands of power outages. Electricity companies reported more than 18,000 outages in Massachusetts, over 7,000 in Connecticut and several hundred in Rhode Island. High winds also caused more than 2,500 outages in New York City and New York's Westchester County and fewer than 15,000 outages in Long Island. New Jersey has about 60,000 outages overall, while Pennsylvania has nearly 24,000. ___ 12:15 a.m. If it's early spring, that means indecisive weather. And it's here. Storms are leaving snow, rain, thunder and wind across parts of the East Coast this weekend. Thunderstorms rumbled through Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland while New England was seeing snow. Not unusual for New Englanders, but given the mild winter of late, another reminder of where they live. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for early Sunday morning through near the noon hour for most of southern New England. Parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts could see high winds and 1 to 4 inches of snow with the potential for thundersnow. That could mean heavy snowfall with whiteout conditions. Forecasters also are warning of high winds in parts of Connecticut and in Vermont. Southern New Hampshire could see 2 to 4 inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 50 mph. York County in Maine could get 2 inches of snow, with less farther north. Forecasters say the winds could cause tree damage and scattered power outages.
