Man charged after domestic dispute, standoff with police heading to higher court

Acting county manager not worried by new planning director’s past professional discipline

<p>PLAINS TWP. &#8212; If your phone rings and you&#8217;re a Hillary Clinton supporter, you might want to answer it &#8212; the Democratic candidate for the presidency is looking for votes in Luzerne County.</p><p>A phone bank was held in Plains Township Monday night with volunteers calling their neighbors and others to solicit help for the Democratic front-runner.</p><p>Marlou Taenzer, field organizer for the Clinton campaign, said the phone banks will be held twice per week &#8212; on Mondays and Wednesday evenings &#8212; in people&#8217;s homes.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great opportunity for Hillary supporters to come together and make some phone calls to neighbors and discuss the issues that matter to them,&#8221; Taenzer said.</p><p>Taenzer said a &#8220;Clinton Coffee&#8221; event was held in Wilkes-Barre last week. She said several supporters attended to discuss the upcoming Pennsylvania Primary, scheduled for April 26.</p><p>&#8220;We talked about the state of the race and we went over Hillary&#8217;s platform,&#8221; Taenzer said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve also been doing canvassing on weekends, knocking on doors in the Wilkes-Barre area.&#8221;</p><p>Taenzer said volunteers have been met with a lot of enthusiasm, adding that people have said they are excited to see Clinton taking an interest in Luzerne County voters.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re out there fighting for every single vote,&#8221; Taenzer said.</p><p>The Clinton campaign opened a regional field office in Scranton on Saturday, attended by U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton. The office is located at 431 Wyoming Ave.</p><p>&#8220;Hillary Clinton is one of the most experienced candidates to seek the presidency in my lifetime, and I believe she will move our nation forward,&#8221; Casey said in a statement. &#8220;Hillary Clinton&#8217;s campaign has been focused on issues that matter to Pennsylvanians, like raising incomes for working families, reducing student debt and protecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Hillary Clinton will fight to ensure all Americans have a fair shot at the American Dream.&#8221;</p><p>Taenzer said the office opening had &#8220;a phenomenal turnout&#8221; and many people expressed interest in getting involved with the campaign.</p><p>The Bernie Sanders campaign has opened an office in Scranton and last week established a location in Wilkes-Barre at 1 South Washington St.</p><p>Taenzer said there are no plans to open a Clinton field office in Wilkes-Barre. She said she is hoping Clinton makes a campaign stop in the region before the primary.</p><p>Taenzer said she grew up in New Hampshire and she decided to get involved with the Clinton campaign after Planned Parenthood was de-funded in New Hampshire.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a big supporter of Planned Parenthood and of women&#8217;s health and reproductive rights,&#8221; Taenzer said. &#8220;I feel Hillary Clinton is the best person to keep fighting for those issues.&#8221;</p><p>Taenzer said anybody who wants get involved with the Clinton campaign locally can reach her by phone at 603-727-8622, or email her at mtaenzer@hillaryclinton.com.</p><style>
