DALLAS &#8211; Misericordia University Department of Social Work, in collaboration with Pennsylvania Recovery Organizations Alliance (PRO-A), will host a drug and alcohol rally from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday in the Huntzinger and Alden Trust rooms 218-219 of Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall.The keynote speaker is William Stauffer, L.S.W., C.C.S., C.A.D.C, executive director, PRO-A, and an adjunct professor of social work at Misericordia University. He will offer the opening address at 8:30 a.m.The documentary &#8220;The Anonymous People,&#8221; directed by Greg Williams, will be presented from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and features interviews with people in long-term recovery from addiction. This film aims at transforming public discourse about addiction with discussion and input from the people in or seeking recovery. Topics include how communities can grow in becoming more &#8220;recovery-oriented&#8221; by developing systems, services and supports with recovery as the driving philosophy. For more information about the film go to http://manyfaces1voice.org/.The rally is open to members of the community, college students and professionals who work in or have an interest in the field of drug and alcohol rehabilitation and those who are concerned with the rise in drug addiction problems in the region.The event is free, and participants are invited to attend any or all of the sessions. There is a charge of $10 for social workers and drug and alcohol counselors who are interested in receiving continuing education credits (CEUs).
