Warden charged with club theft now suspended without pay

Lawmakers move toward delay of judicial retirement age vote

COCHRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania county jail warden charged along with his wife with stealing $132,000 from a Moose lodge has now been suspended without pay. Crawford County Warden Timothy Lewis was initially suspended with pay when the charges against him and his wife, Debra, were filed Thursday. But the county's prison board changed that Monday to an unpaid suspension and called for county jail finances to be audited back to 2011. That's when state prosecutors say the couple started stealing money from the Moose lodge in East Fairfield Township. They were club officers, and prosecutors say they took the money to pay debts from playing "small games of chance" at the club. Prosecutors say Warden Lewis also rigged a raffle in which he won $2,000. The couple's attorney didn't immediately comment Tuesday.
