<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Wilkes University continues to expand efforts at its Arizona Campus, having signed an agreement with Maricopa County Community College that makes it easier for those students to transfer credits from two-year programs to the Wilkes campus.</p><p>Maricopa is the largest community college system in the United States, according to a media release announcing the deal struck April 1 between Wilkes President Patrick Leahy and the Arizona system&#8217;s interim chancellor Maria Harper Marinick. The system includes 10 campuses with a total annual enrollment topping 265,000.</p><p>Wilkes opened the Mesa campus in 2012 after city leaders launched a search for another institution that could fill what many felt was a gap in education offerings. In a media release announcing the latest deal with the community college system, Leahy repeated a frequent boast since the Mesa campus was set up.</p><p>&#8220;Wilkes is the only independent, private not-for-profit university in the greater Phoenix area, offering community college students a unique transfer opportunity to complete a four-year degree,&#8221; Leahy said.</p><p>&#8220;This agreement allows Wilkes to continue its tradition of providing educational opportunities to students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.</p><p>The new agreement makes it easier for students from the community college system to transfer and complete a bachelor&#8217;s degree in business at Wilkes in Arizona.</p><style>
