<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A veteran newspaper editor with bi-coastal experience will take the helm of Times Leader Media Group&#8217;s news operations later this month, the company announced Tuesday.</p><p>Publisher Doug Olsson said Tim Farkas will assume the executive editor post at the Times Leader effective April 20.</p><p>Farkas, who previously served a nine-year stint as executive editor of The Berkshire (Massachusetts) Eagle, was most recently editor of the Watertown (New York) Daily Times, where he also served in a corporate capacity as vice president of news operations for Northern New York Newspapers.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m excited to have an executive like Tim, with the skill and experience he has in running news organizations of various size, join the Times Leader Media Group as executive editor and a member of our operating committee,&#8221; Olsson said. &#8220;This hire exemplifies our commitment to quality journalism and to provide the community and our readers with the best possible products, both in print and online. I have every confidence that Tim will lead our talented staff of journalists with passion and vigor.&#8221;</p><p>In addition to his posts at The Berkshire Eagle and in Watertown, Farkas has also held editing positions at The Orange County Register and San Jose Mercury News in California, and The Seattle Times.</p><p>&#8220;I believe strongly in delivering enterprise and breaking news stories &#8212; and other valuable content &#8212; to our readers on multiple platforms in the print and digital worlds,&#8221; he said Tuesday. &#8220;Building and expanding a digital-first culture is extremely important, but so is overall excellence in our print product. I&#8217;m very excited to be joining Doug and the excellent team of journalists at the Times Leader Media Group. I can&#8217;t wait to get started.&#8221;</p><p>Farkas, a native of Akron, Ohio, graduated from Kent State University in 1983 with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in journalism.</p><style>
