Little Meadows Learning Center ends relationship with Bright Horizons, future now uncertain

<p>WEST PITTSTON &#8212; Council members voted to enter into a street sweeping agreement with PennDOT at their monthly meeting Tuesday.</p><p>According to council president Brian Thornton, the agreement is annual and allows West Pittston to share a sweeper with surrounding boroughs under the West Side Council of Governments for areas the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation does not sweep.</p><p>PennDOT will pay the borough over $700 to do the sweeping.</p><p>&#8220;This is a routine agreement that we enter into every year, probably for over 20 years,&#8221; said Thornton. &#8220;That one bridge that goes over the river, the Fort Jenkins Bridge, that&#8217;s Route 11 and PennDOT doesn&#8217;t send a street sweeper out to do that. So we enter into an agreement for West Pittston to sweep that bridge as well as Route 92, which is Exeter Avenue, and Route 11.&#8221;</p><p>Council members also approved payment of $725 to M. Mayo Striping to re-paint the white lines and arrows at the intersections of Boston and Wyoming avenues and Luzerne and Wyoming avenues.</p><p>&#8220;People are always in the wrong lane because you can&#8217;t see the lanes anymore,&#8221; explained Thornton.</p><p>In other business, the council members voted:</p><p>&#8226; To award the 2016 Lawn Maintenance Services Proposal to D&#8217;Angelo Landscaping, of Taylor, for its bid of $13,000 to maintain borough-owned land.</p><p>&#8226; Temporarily close Wyoming Avenue between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, May 30 for the Memorial Day Parade.</p><p>&#8226; Appoint Ellen Quinn to the Parks &amp; Recreation Board to fill the unexpired term of Mary Musinski, which expires Dec. 31, 2017.</p><p>The next council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 2 at the municipal building, 555 Exeter Ave.</p><div class="metaInfo"><subheadMeta>West Pittston Council approves agreement with PennDOT to sweep selected streets</subheadMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta><p>By Jimmy Fisher</p><p>jfisher@www.timesleader.com</p></bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta><p>Reach Jimmy Fisher at 570-704-3972 or on Twitter @SD_JimmyFisher</p></shirttailMeta></div>
