Mayor George says he’ll go ahead with change in Wilkes-Barre’s backup ambulance providers

<p>When the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins got the day off on Tuesday, the last thing they wanted to think about was hockey.</p><p>At least for one day.</p><p>After enduring a few weeks or practices and games with little break in between, the Penguins needed a break.</p><p>&#8220;It was nice to get away from the rink and just hang out as people for a bit,&#8221; said defenseman Steve Oleksy, who was sporting a black eye from a fight last Saturday.</p><p>The Penguins hit the ice for another late-season practice on Wednesday, but were recharged and didn&#8217;t dwell on the two losses last weekend which cost them a chance to lock up a playoff spot.</p><p>Tom Kostopoulos said the day off was good both mentally and physically, but now thoughts turn back to hockey.</p><p>&#8220;Everyone was frustrated after last weekend,&#8221; Kostopoulos said. &#8220;It&#8217;s been a really tough stretch for us. We want to use this week of practice to get back on top of our game.&#8221;</p><p>After a day off the mindset is clearer, Oleksy said, and the optimism is higher.</p><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a huge emphasis on getting back to what made us successful. That&#8217;s our mindset this week,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s important for us to reset and look at what&#8217;s ahead rather than the past.&#8221;</p><p>NOTES</p><p>- F Carter Rowney and D Barry Goers both missed Wednesday&#8217;s practice with injuries, but head coach Clark Donatelli said they&#8217;re expected to play this weekend.</p><p>- Pittsburgh signed G Sean Maguire to a two-year, two-way deal on Wednesday. Maguire, who was Pittsburgh&#8217;s fourth round pick in 2012, just completed his senior season with Boston University, going 13-9-1 with a 2.41 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage and two shutouts in 25 games. He&#8217;ll join Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday on an amateur tryout contract, but it&#8217;s not clear if he&#8217;ll play anytime soon.</p><p>Goaltending coach Mike Buckley said Maguire is recovering from an injury he suffered this season and the plan is to get him acquainted with the team and ease him into practice.</p><p>&#8220;From there we&#8217;ll see how it progresses,&#8221; Buckley said.</p><p>- Buckley said he isn&#8217;t concerned about G Tristan Jarry&#8217;s workload and added the rookie netminder doesn&#8217;t need a break. Jarry has started the last 10 games and allowed five goals in each of his last two starts. Buckley acknowledged that Jarry&#8217;s play of late hasn&#8217;t been great, but long-term the heavy workload will aid his development.</p><p>Buckley also cautioned against comparing Jarry, 20, to the success Matt Murray had last season as a 20-year-old.</p><p>&#8220;We saw some amazing things from Murray last year and we have to remember that&#8217;s pretty rare for someone to be that mature at that age,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Tristan is working hard at it. Having success is great, but taking some lumps is part of developing as well.&#8221;</p><style>
