Wyoming Valley West School District looks for answers regarding the absence of resource school officer

WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The difference between a softball team that hasn&#8217;t lost a conference game in four years and the one in an endless pursuit was obvious Wednesday.Clutch hitting.Redeemer scored six of its runs with two outs while Northwest couldn&#8217;t seem to get a key hit when needed as the Royals posted a 7-0 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3 game.&#8220;It&#8217;s something that you stress,&#8221; Redeemer coach Jerry Paulukonis said. &#8220;When you have two outs or runners in scoring position no matter how many outs, you have to be totally focused.&#8221;The Royals haven&#8217;t lost a Division 3 game since the WVC went to three divisions in 2013. Wednesday&#8217;s victory ran their divisional streak to 38 consecutive wins. Northwest (1-1) was always on their heels those seasons, but seemed to be on a treadmill as well and never could make up significant ground.It was more of the same starting with the first inning.Morgan Bienkowski, back from a wrist injury that sidelined her earlier, opened the game with a single. Then two new faces in the lineup of the defending PIAA Class 2A state champions came through. Freshman Allyson Laiuvara walked and freshman Tiana Wren followed with an RBI single.Northwest looked like it was going to get out of the inning with minimal damage as pitcher Brooke Harvey retired the next two batters. Kristen Coffay, though, prevented that with a two-run triple down the left-field line. Megan Armstrong later added an RBI single for a 4-0 advantage.Armstrong struck again in the fourth, once again with two outs as she banged a double off the left-field fence to score Olivia Mennig and Sarah Kudrka. Armstrong, a Nanticoke transfer, completed her 3 for 3 day with a double in the fifth. She scored on a two-out single up the middle by Morgan Bienkowski.&#8220;It&#8217;s pretty hard,&#8221; Northwest first-year coach Kevin Harvey said. &#8220;They&#8217;re clutch hitters. What can you do? They&#8217;re a championship team and we hope to catch up to them shortly.&#8221;As for Northwest, the Rangers had their lead-off hitter reach base in five innings yet couldn&#8217;t get a run across. Their best chances came in the second and sixth.Nicole Cragle walked and Hannah Wisniewski singled to open Northwest&#8217;s second. Coffay, Redeemer&#8217;s pitcher, got a couple strikeouts and a groundout. Harvey walked to open the sixth and moved to third on two wild pitches, but was stranded there.Hanover Area 3, Meyers 2Karly Bennett knocked in two runs and Lauren Blazaskie added another as Hanover Area rallied to defeat Meyers.The Hawkeyes tied the score 2-2 in the fifth and scoring the winning run in the sixth. Mary Kate Penczkowski pitched 5.2 innings, striking out six, to get the win.Wyo.
