Twice is nice for Thompson and Dallas

<p>MOOSIC &#8212; For the most part of last season and for the early part of this season, the RailRiders bullpen has been the team&#8217;s strength.</p><p>But there&#8217;s always going to be hiccups along the way.</p><p>One of the blips came on Monday night at PNC Field as James Pazos and Diego Moreno allowed three runs in the top of the ninth inning of a 9-6 loss to Buffalo.</p><p>Moreno, who entered the game without allowing a run in six innings this season and posted an ERA of 2.18 in 53 2/3 innings last season for SWB, gave up three doubles in the ninth inning. The first one was by former SWB Yankee Jesus Montero, who drove in a run and gave the Bisons a 7-6 lead. After Casey Kotchman doubled Montero to third, Moreno recorded a strikeout. But then, Matt Dominguez (3 for 4, 4 RBI) knocked in Montero and Kotchman for two more insurance runs.</p><p>Pazos (1-1) started the ninth inning giving up a double to Andy Burns before retiring Domonic Brown and giving way to Moreno.</p><p>Overall, the whole pitching staff struggled, giving up 15 hits and five walks to the Bisons. Starter Kyle Haynes gave up six runs on nine hits in five innings. Over the last three games the pitchers have given up 40 hits and 19 runs. But in between losses on Monday and Saturday was a win on Sunday when they allowed just one run.</p><p>&#8220;No concern at all. It&#8217;s early in the season. At this point I feel like the pitching staff has done a good job and has given us a chance to win some games,&#8221; manager Al Pedrique said. &#8220;It&#8217;s gonna happen. We&#8217;re gonna have good days and bad days. We&#8217;re not gonna panic this early.&#8221;</p><p>The RailRiders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Aaron Judge. But that was the only lead they would have the entire game. Buffalo answered right back with two in the second, including a long home run by Kotchman, and three more in the third consisting of a two-run shot by Junior Lake to go ahead 5-2 after three innings.</p><p>Nick Swisher helped SWB&#8217;s offense with a solo blast in the fourth inning, then tied the game at 6-6 in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to score Slade Heathcott.</p><p>SWB piled up a season-high 14 hits led by the bottom of the order with No. 9 hitter Jonathan Diaz going 3 for 4 with an RBI triple. No. 7 hitter Chris Parmelee and No. 8 hitter Pete Kozma each doubled and scored a run as part of a 2 for 4 game.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s big when you have everybody contributing,&#8221; Pedrique added. &#8220;It&#8217;s nice when you have everyone do it at the same time, otherwise we&#8217;re gonna have some guys that are gonna struggle. That&#8217;s why the other guys need to step up and pick each other up. I&#8217;m glad that Kozma is starting to swing better and Diaz is getting some big hits.&#8221;</p><style>
