Cuomo vows to support organized labor in NY

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. will return $15,000 donated to his campaign for state attorney general from a company owned by a wealthy northeastern Pennsylvania businessman. Zappala's campaign manager Marty Marks tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/1Ssdanu) the campaign was previously unaware of Scranton businessman Louis DeNaples' connection to the contributions. Marks says Zappala instructed the campaign to return the Pocono Gardens Realty donation. DeNaples is the former owner of Mount Airy Casino Resort and currently owns Pocono Gardens Realty. DeNaples was charged with perjury in 2008 for allegedly lying to casino regulators about his reputed ties to an organized crime family. The charges were dropped with the condition he relinquish control of the casino. He has long denied having any mob ties. DeNaples also was convicted in a 1970s scheme to defraud the government of more than $500,000. Zappala is vying for the Democratic nomination in the April 26 primary.
