MOOSIC &#8212; Before the season started, RailRiders manager Al Pedrique said that Tyler Cloyd would be pitching out of the bullpen to start the season.It turned out the right-hander had just one appearance pitching in relief. His other two times on the mound with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has been as a starter. And the starts couldn&#8217;t have been any better. One was a brilliant start on Tuesday night at PNC Field against Buffalo.The veteran tossed 6 2/3 innings allowing just four hits, and got help from slugger Aaron Judge, who homered and drove in four runs as the RailRiders defeated the Bisons 7-0 for their third shutout in 12 games this season. The shutout came a day after the staff allowed a season-high nine runs.&#8220;We&#8217;re going to have nights when we&#8217;re off. It&#8217;s gonna happen,&#8221; said Cloyd, who has allowed just one run in 15 2/3 innings this season for SWB for an ERA of 0.57. &#8220;But tonight, everything was on and we kept them off-balanced and it worked out for us.&#8221;Cloyd, signed by the Yankees to a minor league deal in January after he was released by Cleveland, was efficient in his outing throwing 98 pitches with 69 of them for strikes. At one point, he retired 13 in a row and 16 of 17 with the one hit being an infield single. Cloyd didn&#8217;t allow a runner past second base the entire game.&#8220;It felt nice to get stretched out that much,&#8221; Cloyd said. &#8220;My body was kinda feeling it a little bit at the end but we stayed with our mechanics that we&#8217;ve been working on and everything felt strong all the way through. So hopefully we can continue that.&#8221;The only Bisons batter that reached second against the right-hander was former Phillies top prospect Domonic Brown, who did it twice. Brown walked and advanced on a fielder&#8217;s choice in the first inning, before reaching via fielder&#8217;s choice and moving up on a wild pitch in the sixth. Once Cloyd got his curveball going, the Bisons had no chance. He kept them guessing, inducing eight groundball outs and five in the air, while throwing a first-pitch strike to 17 of the 25 batters he faced.&#8220;It&#8217;s been a work in progress,&#8221; Cloyd said about his curveball. &#8220;The actions I had on it tonight were nice. It was a nice pitch that I could use at any point. But I want to get to the point where I can use all my pitches like that. I felt like I could tonight, I just didn&#8217;t need some of my pitches.&#8221;Meanwhile, Judge was giving Cloyd all the support he would need. In the bottom of the third, the power-hitting outfielder drilled an 0-1 pitch from Scott Diamond 419 feet away from home plate for a towering, three-run homer to left field putting the RailRdiers ahead 3-0.Two innings later, Judge got his fourth RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly giving SWB a 4-0 lead. After the first run scored on an error, catcher Gary Sanchez hit his first triple since 2012 driving in Rob Refsnyder for a 6-0 lead.Right-hander Connor Mullee tossed the last 2 1/3 innings of the game to preserve the shutout.
